mmmm, don’t want to be a pessimist, but if that (untested) switch fails to earth at some point, you have to finish the race at 60km/h? I kind of think that I’d avoid adding bells and whistles at this stage. What isn’t there can’t fail or weigh anything :)

We did consider the possible failure modes. There’s a pin in the ignition box which was already wired into the loom, so could have failed to earth anyway. All we’ve done is connect that point in the loom to a switch. It’s difficult to imagine how it could fail, really - the joints are soldered and wrapped in self-amalgamating tape. And pretty much the whole field in the TT uses these pit lane limiters which are all the same - a button/switch on the handlebars which shorts a pin to earth.
